Valve Index Warranty Period & Returns

The Valve Index warranty lasts for one year from the date of shipment. This warranty covers all hardware and supporting accessories. The return period for the Valve Index is 14 days from the date you receive the hardware.

If you are unhappy with your Valve Index, experiencing issues, or need to return it, this guide will help you navigate the process.

Valve’s Limited Warranty

Valve offers a one-year warranty on their hardware, starting from the date of shipment. This warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship under normal use. If your Valve Index has a defect during this period, Valve will either repair it, replace it with a new or refurbished product, or refund your purchase price. Remember, this is your only remedy unless your local law provides additional options. This warranty also applies to replacement hardware for the rest of the original warranty period or for 90 days, whichever is longer. Valve will keep all replaced parts and refunded hardware.

To submit a warranty claim, you can request a refund or service through Valve’s Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) process.

How to Submit a Valve Index Warranty Claim

If you are facing issues with your Valve Index and want to make a warranty claim, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Steam Support site.
  2. Select “Steam Hardware” under the support options.
  3. When asked which VR product you need help with, choose “Valve Index.”
  4. Review the troubleshooting information or select “Contact Steam Support” to start the RMA process if needed.

Transferring a Valve Index Warranty

If you bought a used Valve Index, you can still make a warranty claim. Although it may be more challenging than if you were the original owner, it’s possible. Start by contacting Steam Support and explaining your issue, noting that you are not the original owner. In most cases, if the hardware is still within the one-year warranty period, Valve will honor the warranty. Steam Support may ask for the original account name or transaction ID of the Valve Index purchase. Try to obtain this information from the seller or have it ready when needed. Valve may also contact the original owner to verify the transfer. Once the transfer is complete, Steam Support will not require further verification for future claims. Note that the warranty period does not extend upon transfer; it remains one year from the original purchase date.

Refunds and Returns

Valve provides a 14-day return window for the Valve Index, Steam Deck, and related components, including controllers. This period starts from the day you, or someone you designate (other than the carrier), receive the hardware. If you cancel your order within these 14 days, you then have another 14 days to send back the goods, following Valve’s instructions.

If you meet all the refund requirements, Valve will reimburse you for the hardware’s purchase price and any delivery charges for shipping the hardware to you. They will use the same payment method you used, unless otherwise agreed, and they do not charge any fees for this reimbursement. If the purchase was made with a Steam Wallet, Valve will reimburse the same wallet. You are responsible for the cost of returning the hardware.

This return program may not apply if you have modified, abused, or significantly tested the hardware beyond what is possible in a retail store. If so, you may have to cover the reduced value of the hardware due to its condition.
